Cumby Collegiate ISD would like to thank all who stepped up and stepped in today to help with a reported situation. There was never a gas leak; however Atmos checked all buildings to ensure everything was in good standing. All HVAC units were checked as well to ensure proper functioning. Only one unit in the whole district was not and it was shut off. Small amounts of carbon monoxide were emitted; however, levels in the building were not high according to emergency personnel. Also, our campuses do have carbon monoxide detectors which are being checked to ensure they are functioning properly. Some staff and students were not feeling well and were checked out due to odor in the building. The source of the odor was found and the building was aired out. Staff and students were able to return to the buildings. Tomorrow morning, the
County Fire Marshall will be in the district and will complete walkthroughs as a precaution. Please know that the safety and security of all is our number one priority, and it will continue to be. All updates and information can be found on our website as well as through texts, emails, and calls through our all call system. We appreciate the outreach and support we have received. We can only be our best together. #StrongerTogether #WeAreCumby
An odor was detected and identified. Staff and students were sent to the gym to allow the buildings to be investigated by Hopkins County Fire, Cumby Fire and Atmos Energy. All staff and students were allowed to return to the buildings. Games will be played tonight.
Attention: The school district has not shutdown for the day. If a parent would like to pick up their student, they are welcome to, but the school district has not shut down and is not forcing students to leave.
There has been an odor dected at Cumby Collegiate High School, the cause of the odor is still undetermined. Hopkins County Fire along with Cumby Fire, Atmos and HVAC techs are on scene to determin the cause. All faculty and students have been evacuated for their safety, and will be medically examined if they desire. Parents will be notified if their student does not feel well. Due to main water breaks and draining of the tower, there will be no school tomorrow. Everyone needs to continue to check website and listen for all calls regarding Friday. Also, for those in Cumby area who need water, the City has pallets of water available at the maintenance barn.
We will be closing tomorrow due to hazardous road conditions throughout the district. We will have a late start Wednesday as well, at 10:00. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause; however, our number one priority is the safety of all.
